Art Deco Rainbow Moonstone Necklace
This moonstone necklace is carefully designed and hand crafted in sterling silver. The simplicity of the design allows a certain intricacy to evolve from the natural rainbow moonstone stone. The luster of the vibrant stone mixed with the hand drawn art deco patterns allows this piece to be worked into every outfit and can be worn every day, all day. Affixed to the silver chain are small faceted rondell moonstone beads. Hand cut from the back of the piece is a hand drawn design inspired by antique art deco wallpaper, allowing a little secret for only the wearer to enjoy.
This necklace is affixed to an 18″ adjustable chain and is finished with a simple handmade hook clasp.
A Little About Moonstone
“A ghostly sheen moves under the surface of this feldspar, like moonlight glowing in water.” -GIA website
Moonstone’s unearthly glow is caused by light scattering between microscopic layers of feldspar. Moonstone is a variety of the feldspar-group mineral orthoclase. During formation, orthoclase and albite separate into alternating layers. When light falls between these thin layers it is scattered producing the phenomenon called adularescence. Adularescence is the light that appears to billow across a gem. Other feldspar minerals can also show adularescence including labradorite and sanidine. (https://www.gia.edu/moonstone)
Moonstone is a birthstone for June, along with pearl and alexandrite.
